EPSILON OMEGA CHAPTER HISTORY
In the Beginning . . .
It was through the efforts of Vivian Cook, May Miller and Sadye Martin, graduates of Howard University, Vivian Carter, University of Chicago and Miriam Curtis, University of Illinois that a decision was made to establish a graduate chapter in Baltimore, Maryland and extend the work of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® . Permission to organize was obtained at the 1920 Boule; thereafter members were selected and a meeting was held on November 9, 1921 for instructions preliminary to the initiation. A formal reception was held at the home of Vivian Cook on Friday, December 2, 1921. Present at the initiation which was conducted by Nellie Quander, Eastern Area Organizer and Evelyn Lightner, President of Alpha Chapter, Margaret Lawrence, Lilla Martin, undergraduate members of the sorority and others who assisted with the initiation. The graduate chapter would be known as “Sigma Chapter.” Immediately after inception as Sigma Chapter her name was changed to Epsilon Omega in conformance with new rules for graduate chapters adopted at the 1921 Boule held December 28th – 31st,1921. The Charter members were Martha Louise Reynolds, Brenda Ray Moryck, Sarah Lillian Hughes, Georgine Lewis Wilkins, Erma Bruce Davis, S. Annice Creditt Woodford, May Miller, Vivian John - son Cook, Miriam Curtiss and Sadye C. Martin
